Day in the Hospital

21 Nov 2020 14:15

Today a blog about an experienced "Day in the Hospital" photographer, Sandra Stokmans. In February 2020 she came to our "Pelican" ward to document our hospital life. The pictures she made were even better than I could have wished for. So beautiful! Many of the photos on my blog were taken by Sandra. I hope to keep sharing them with you in the future.

Diaphragm Pacemaker?!

14 Nov 2020 16:25

“A what ?!” This is usually the response I get when explaining what Nienke is getting. Not a strange response at all because in the Netherlands it is not a well known treatment at all. Countdown

13 Nov 2020 17:01

"How many more nights do I have to sleep in the hospital, Mommy?" A question that I have expected a hundred times but have not heard once. With her surgery coming up real soon I made a countdown calendar for her. This way she has an overview of what is going on and can see for herself how long it will take until she goes to Groningen and when her surgery is planned. I deliberately write "planned". Her operation has already been postponed three times. The first time was planned in October 2019. Now, 7 months later and she still hasn't had surgery. I find myself struggling to trust that it will really happen. But now, to stay positive, I have started counting down the nights along with Nienke .... another 9 nights and then the big day ....... I hope.

Digital Journal

13 Nov 2020 00:00

I have been writing in my journal for a number of years, but since a few months I increasingly feel the need to share my life as Nienke's mom. Nienke has a very rare condition called ROHHAD-NET. There is little to be found about it on the internet and what can be found is only in English. That is the reason why I originally started blogging in Dutch.
